Video is more important than ever with online marketing.  A video can be used to extend the appeal of your portfolio, and provide an introduction of your firm’s services or approach.

Steps to making a video

  1. Decide the topic of your video and how you intend to transmit the message, wether it will     be via graphics or audio or a combination.
  1. Create a rough storyboard of how you plan for it to flow and write a script if you need one.
  1. Find and/or create the images and/or footage and audio you will need.
  1. Edit it together in one of the editing softwares, depending on your needs.
  1. Export it out and upload it as a social media post, ad, YouTube video, etc.

Software to create and edit video

If using a MAC you can use the app iMovie to make and edit videos.

In a Windows computer, you can use Movie Maker which can be downloaded if it is not already on your computer.

Once the video is  complete as per your liking, export the video into a file to your computer in High Definition.

To create a new project on iMovie:

Open the Projects tab on top and select create new: then select movie ( it will give you the option of creating a movie or a trailer).

Once you are on the project screen, drag in the pictures and/or clips that you will use on your video to your “Media” tab section.

You will then drag down the media as needed to create your movie.

On the top right corner, you will have your preview screen and menu. At the bottom, you can see the settings, tap on it to choose a preset theme for your video if you would like to and find one that fits your needs. These preset options will include title styles as well as transitions or backgrounds. Or you can choose No Theme and create your own.

Once the media is in its positions you can adjust the length of time the picture will be visible for  ortrim a clip form unwanted portions by stretching it or splitting portions and deleting them.

Once you click on the picture and you can see it on the preview screen, on the menu on top you have the option to adjust the picture’s color or enhance it. Once the action is completed you have to tap on the check mark on the top right corner to confirm it and save it.

Other options on this menu are to crop the image or adjust the visible portion. You may also select Ken Burns to zoom in or out from the picture as it plays.

If the segment you are working on is a clip or recording, this menu also gives you the option to stabilize the image, adjust the volume and reduce noise or adjust the speed of the clip.

Overlay filter options are also available on this menu.

You can  include audio such as a song or beat to play along with your images. You will have to drag it into the video as well and adjust its positioning. If the audio is not long enough to cover the whole movie, you can copy and paste it to repeat it, if it sounds well together.

On the top browser bar, you can find the “Titles” tab, once you click on it you can see the different titles that you can choose to include on your video, you have to edit the text and place it above the picture or time frame where you want it to show on your video. Preview and adjust as necessary.

You can also find the “Backgrounds” tab where you can find preloaded background pictures to use as title pages if they fit your theme. Or you can simply upload your own as a picture into your media tab.

On the “Transitions” tab, you will have the options to choose from different transitions between the pictures or clips to display.You can try them and test them to see how they work.

As you place the different media in its order and add titles and transitions you should preview the work to make sure it looks as you are planning to. Sometimes you have to adjust the positioning of the items.

When working with a recording or video, you have the options to split the clip and remove unwanted parts by right clicking on the item, and selecting split, then select the portion to delete, right click and select delete. 

How to upload to Youtube

  1. Open YouTube. Tap the YouTube app icon, which resembles the YouTube logo. This will open your YouTube home page if you’re logged in.
    1. If you aren’t logged into YouTube, you’ll need to select your account or enter your email address and password when prompted before proceeding.
    2. If you plan on extensively editing your video before uploading it, you may first want to transfer it to your computer and edit it there. If so, consider uploading from desktop instead.
  1. Tap the “Upload”  icon. It’s in the upper-right side of the screen. Doing so will take you to the upload page.
  1. You may have to allow YouTube access to your phone’s camera, microphone, and/or camera roll before proceeding.
  1. Select your video. Tap the video that you want to upload.
  2. Edit your video if necessary. You can edit your video’s length by tapping and dragging one of the ends of the video bar left or right, or you can change the video’s visual presentation or music by changing to the proper tab at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap NEXT. It’s in the top-right corner of the screen.
  4. Add a video title and description. Type a title for your video into the “Title” box, then type a description (optional) into the text box below the title.
  1. Add appropriate hashtags or keywords.
  2. Tap UPLOAD. It’s in the top-right corner of the screen. Your video will begin to upload to YouTube.
  3. Wait for the video to finish uploading to YouTube. Once the video is live, you’ll be able to view it on your channel.
