Can Pole Dancing Be an Olympic Sport?

Thousands of pole dancers and also the rapidly growing number of international and national federations transforming what was once the exclusive property of strip clubs and cheap bars into a respectable and highly athletic event are saying “Absolutely”.

“After a great deal of feedback from the pole-dance community, many of us have decided that it’s about time pole fitness is recognized as a competitive sport and what better way for recognition than to be part of the 2012 Olympics held in London,” Coates wrote in a petition she is readying for the London organizers.

Yes, it’s understandable that to some, Pole Dancing is solely what it has always been associated with, a strip club. We believe, along with our growing community, this idea has a lot to do with the lack of knowledge and unwillingness to look outside Old Ways of Thinking.

Opinions are inevitable whether it be towards new Music, Sports, Entertainment, Celebrities or Political Issues. There will always be those that support or protest any new idea and or trend. It is our strong belief that there is absolutely nothing wrong with a woman or a man attempting to change the perception of others. We hope to change the Old Way of Thinking and inform people of how prominent this new sport and Fitness Trend is becoming.
